Garage Dog on the Radio
Some moments in one’s life are dream moments and this ranks right up there, playing live on the radio was a fantastic experience, thanks to Jay Sharp at 107.9 the Breeze for the support.

Ruth Ann Milne / Eric Roberts / Dean Smith / Mark Rice / Mike Woods Garage Dog 2010 – Present When this band started I wasn’t sure where it was heading but after a bunch of gigs and a ton of laughs we show no signs of letting up. I’ve never had this much fun playing music in my life and my good friends Dean and Mark have reminded me why I started playing guitar in the first place. After changing up the lineup a couple of times we have arrived at a band that has a real chemistry that is beyond explanation and the material keeps the crowd dancing – truly a blast!
Anne Finlay / Pete Faragher / Tom Tansley / Mike Woods Barefoot Soul – Mark 2 – 2009 – 2010 Musically the best band I’ve ever played in with the addition of Pete Faragher to lineup, very polished sound with some really great people. Playing for the Olympic Torch and various local festivals and events, this band was in top form every time we were on stage.
Barefoot Soul – Estival 2009
Stuart MacDonald – Second Wind In June 2009 Stuart Macdonald’s Second Wind Cd was released and I was lucky enough to record some guitar tracks for Stuart. Great time, thanks Stuart!
Playing the Six String Nation Guitar – 2009
In the Summer of 2009 I was asked to play a song with my good friend Anne Finlay during a show we were playing at the local Estival! event in Port Hope on the Six String Nation Guitar. This was a real thrill and I am so glad to have had the chance to hold such a big part of Canadian History – check out the link here to read more about this guitar.

Hockey Night in Canada Theme Competition I decided to try and enter the competition to write the new theme for Hockey Night in Canada. The rules were pretty simple, write an instrumental song that would pump people up when the broadcast started. Didn’t win but I at least got past the submissions round!

Anne Finlay / Mike Woods / Tom Tansley / Alban Merepeza Barefoot Soul – Mark 1 – 2007 \ 2009
After the problems I had in the Vinyls I was a little gun shy to get back into another band but with these great people it was pretty easy! Great sound and a great feel, this band really became as good a friends as one can in a group and was a real pleasure to work with. Unfortunately work schedules and family lives made this too difficult to continue with any type of real commitment and we had to change things around. Played some very enjoyable shows with this band and had some really good laughs, what it’s all about!

Chris Miller / Marc Hamilton / Mike Woods The Vinyls – 2005-2007 Power trio that specialized in British stuff, especially Beatles. Very talented group but personalities proved a bit too strong and in the end we weren’t compatible enough to make a go of it. Too bad, pretty strong sound in this group.
Mike Woods / Aengus Finnan Aengus Finnan – 2005
Playing with Aengus opened a lot of doors for me and I am grateful he asked. Great experience and the first time I was ever asked outside one of my own projects to play professionally.
Anne Finlay / Mike Woods Finlay / Woods – 2004 – Present Meeting up with Anne Finlay in 2004 was a turning point musically for me. It allowed me to pursue music a little more seriously then I ever had before and I began to devote more time to rehearsing and writing. It’s also when I started teaching guitar full time so it was a time that I became more professional in my approach to every aspect of music. We have now shared the stage too many times to count over the past seven years including local events such as the Shelter Valley Folk Festival. Our new single Violet Skies is now available on Itunes. May the road be long Anne!
Audio Track – Midnight Rain – Finlay / Woods – from “Sharing the Road” (2004)
Camilla Peterson / Mark Rice / Mike Woods / Joel Jameson / Tim Noseworthy Midnight Rain – 2002 \ 2003 This was my first attempt at writing songs and this band was assembled to record with. We did play a few shows but the focus was on writing and recording. Lineup changes plagued the process and after a year this project was abandoned but it did yield a few recordings. Mostly a frustrating experience though throughout.
Audio Track – The Old Coal Road (Instrumental Demo)
Christine Benson / Mike Woods Benson / Woods – 2001 For a few gigs I took the stage with my wife Christine and did an acoustic folk thing. We did some local shows as well as a stint on the stage at the Capitol Theatre in Port Hope. Our biggest moment taking place at the Give a Hoot café opening for Ron Sexsmith.
Nick Brunet / Mark Rice / Mike Woods / Ryan Griffiths Haskal Road – 1999 \ 2001 Formed late in high school with a lot of different people in and out of the lineup, the band finally emerged while I was at college with a wild group of lads. The ultimate college party band, Haskal Road played the likes of the college pubs, the Red Dog in Peterborough, the Capitol Theatre in Port Hope and did road trips as far as Kingston for gigs. Truly a magical time with these guys and I have very fond memories of this band. We need to play again someday guys!

Aaron Wood / Brian Bracken / Mark Rice / Mike Woods Mysterious Anthem – 1997 \ 1998 Formed in high school with some friends, my first real band that actually played gigs! We won a few local competitions and learned a lot about playing with other people. This band latter evolved into Scratch Three which had some acclaim in the Durham region area and now the lead guitarist Brian Bracken can be seen fronting Blues Underdog and hanging out with the likes of the Black Eyed Peas. Drummer Aaron Wood can be seen with Mob Barley and the Railers playing bass and my long time friend Mark Rice is now still playing with me in Garage Dog.
